Homemade Laundry Detergent (Part Two)

041-2484020

Almost a year after starting to make my own laundry detergent, I’m still incredibly pleased with the results after the wash and as well as how inexpensive it is to make.  Here’s another variation on my favorite detergent with the added power of oxygenated bleach, which is safe on both whites and colors (but double check the label in the store to ensure you’re grabbing the right stuff!).  It keeps the colors vivid and helps the whites from getting dingy.  The recipe makes a large recipe that fills about two and a half gallon ice cream tubs but with the help of a food processor, takes less than five minutes and you’re ready for months of laundry.

Ingredients:

1 box washing soda
1 box Borax
3 bars Fels Naptha soap
2 tubs (about 56 oz) oxygenated bleach
2 cups baking soda

Grate Fels Naptha soap in a food processor then chop into smaller pieces with the chopping blade.  Mix all ingredients thoroughly in a large bowl or bucket (I do it outside to prevent the dust from settling all over the kitchen).  Use about 1/8 to 1/4 cup, soaking laundry if necessary to remove stains.

Enjoy!
(If that’s possible to do with laundry)

And thank you Camp Wander for sharing the recipe!
